Chapter 101 – Running

Joja had been patiently waiting for news over the next few days, meanwhile seizing the time to study some matters regarding international arms trade.

Having come to Italy, and with the Mediterranean smuggling bible in hand, how could he not give it a try?

He was not a patient man, but reality forced him to suppress his restless heart and start studying hard with his laptop.

For their small team, killing someone was really very simple.

But the difficult part was how to locate the enemy's position and then safely retreat after the deed was done.

The traditional steps to strike an enemy were 'find him', 'track him', 'eliminate him', but the most important was to ensure one's own safe retreat. Without this step, no matter how well the previous actions were executed, it would all be in vain.

Joja wanted revenge, but he definitely did not want to start a war with the violent institutions of a country. Even if the Italian military was incompetent, it was still a developed country.

The most advantageous point for Joja now was that the Mori family was at war with the Glorious Society.

If he launched an attack, it would most likely be attributed to the Glorious Society.

That undercover agent did know that Dorian was not from the Glorious Society and might have some suspicions, but that didn't matter. No matter how much he knew, he wouldn't dare tell anyone else.

Because if you expose me, at worst I'll just flee to Africa, but if I expose you, then you're as good as dead.

Dorian and Antar had gone south, and Joja, having some downtime, passively enjoyed a brief vacation.

Their location was already a holiday resort in Catania. The wooden cabin rented by Dorian was in a great spot, and the nearest neighbor was nearly a kilometer away.

To fully experience the charm of Sicily, Joja would run along the mountain roads every morning and evening. The 7.5-kilometer mountain road was just right to make him feel physically and mentally refreshed, even forgetting the annoyance of waiting.

Kaman didn't like running. He felt that if it wasn't for survival or eating, running was a waste of time and life.

But Kaman was extremely concerned about Joja's safety. The old guy was probably one of the few in the world who hoped he could grow big and strong in the arms industry and still live a long life.

So, when Joja went out for a run in this unfamiliar place, there was always a barefoot black man in sportswear following behind him.

The two of them running in this vacation spot was quite noticeable.

If you develop the habit of running, you feel uncomfortable if you don't run for a day.

Vacation was supposed to be enjoyable, but if two guys run past your door every morning and evening, it's like when you're trying to quit smoking, and there are always two people blowing smoke in front of you.

In just two days, some of the regular runners started to join the two 'professional athletes' for a run in the morning.

Most of the running enthusiasts' attention was on Kaman.

Because although the old guy's hair was graying, he ran with the style of Kipchoge, especially uphill.

Who has ever seen a long-distance runner with the same stride frequency uphill and downhill, completing a 7.5-kilometer round trip, and after a sip of water, acting as if nothing happened?

That day, as usual, Joja went out early in the morning.

After greeting Nis, who was making coffee, Joja started jogging, breathing in the fresh sea breeze, and running towards Mount Etna.

Along the way, a few young people joined the morning run, but when they had run about a kilometer up the mountain, a mother and daughter appeared before them.

The figures of the mother and daughter were very eye-catching. When he caught up with them, Joja couldn't help but take a few extra glances.

The mother was about 1.7 meters tall, wearing a tight yoga outfit that outlined her figure completely. As she ran, her light brown ponytail swayed, giving her an air of youthful vitality. From the back, one could hardly imagine she was a woman in her forties.

The daughter seemed to have inherited her mother's genes. At the age of a teenager, she had already surpassed 1.8 meters. However, compared to her mother, the girl seemed much thinner and overall, a bit lacking.

The appearance of the mother and daughter caused a stir in the morning running squad for a few seconds. A few young men who had been following Kaman suddenly sped up, catching up with the mother and daughter to try and strike up a conversation.

To everyone's surprise, the mother and daughter didn't say a word, just flashed a meaningful smile and then started to accelerate.

A few minutes later, the rhythm of most of the runners was disrupted.

Joja, having undergone a period of professional training, immediately realized that the mother and daughter might be professional athletes, because their running and breathing rhythms were clearly professionally trained, unlike those who ran for fun.

Many people don't know that when engaging in aerobic exercises like running, the frequency of breathing is very important. If not controlled well, trying to forcibly break through the body's limits can cause damage to the cardiopulmonary function.

Joja himself had experienced this once in Egypt. When he tried weighted running and his breathing became erratic, he attempted to adjust with high-frequency breathing, and almost passed out as a result. The coach took a paper bag and covered his mouth and nose, using carbon dioxide to neutralize the oxygen content in his body, which finally made Joja completely awake.

This is the 'oxygen poisoning' caused by high-frequency breathing!

Sometimes, after exercising, heavy breathing can cause dizziness for this reason.

Joja ran with the mother and daughter for a full three kilometers, and it was uphill. Their breathing remained steady throughout. If they weren't athletes, Joja felt like he could do without his eyes.

Compared to those who gradually fell behind due to the disrupted rhythm, Joja did maintain his own pace. However, he had no intention of competing. Running in the morning and evening was just an endurance training for him, and there was no need to compete.

As the distance gradually widened, Joja soon couldn't see the mother and daughter anymore.

But when he reached the top of the mountain, he found the mother and daughter on the observation platform at the top of Thor Mountain, helping each other do stretching exercises that Joja couldn't name.

Seeing Joja and Kaman catching up so quickly, the mother stopped and nodded at Joja as a greeting, then turned and grabbed her daughter's arms from behind, forcefully twisting them into a reverse angle that gave Joja goosebumps.

Joja didn't stay, he circled the observation deck and started to return the way he came.

Looking at a few people with pale faces running along the way, Joja looked at a young man who was making faces and asked himself about the whereabouts of the mother and daughter. He made a cheering gesture and then pointed to the mountaintop.

Running downhill was not particularly easy. Joja, with sweat on his forehead, envied Kaman, who seemed to have no feeling, and stopped when he was about 400 meters from his own cabin.

Walking and adjusting his breathing, Joja said helplessly, "Why aren't you tired?"

Facing the boss's question, Kaman organized his words and said in a hoarse voice, "If you don't think about it, you won't get tired!"

Looking at Kaman's carefree and masterful demeanor, Joja shook his head and said with a smile, "You make a good point."

Just as Joja was about to reach the door, he heard footsteps behind him.

He turned around and saw that the mother and daughter had caught up.

As the mother passed Joja, she nodded again as a greeting. But as they were about to pass Joja's cabin, a man reeking of alcohol suddenly emerged from the roadside by the sea.

He grabbed the girl's arm in the midst of her screams, and then loudly spoke in some Eastern European language.

Seeing the clearly drunk man muttering in a language he couldn't understand, pulling the girl towards his cabin, Joja and Kaman exchanged a glance and hurried over. There were many things in their cabin that were not suitable for outsiders to see!
