Vol.2 - Chapter 20 – Delan Becca Subway

"This is it."

Su Li tore off Roger Sussfu's bounty poster and waved it at Lilith.

Lilith looked closely and frowned at the name on the bounty. She said, "Bounty missions are not that easy."

"In Delan Becca, it's harder to find a hiding extraordinary than finding a needle in the sea. Besides... this bounty is from several years ago, so it's hard to say if the person is still here."

Su Li smiled faintly and pretended to be mysterious. "Don't ask so many questions, just come with me. Actually, I already have some information."

Lilith raised an eyebrow and couldn't help but ask, "You've planned this in advance, what exactly are you up to?"

"...I went for a divination today and found the exact location of this guy."

Su Li didn't plan to keep everything from Lilith. Since she was going with him, he naturally had to explain things clearly.

"Well, let's go then. Since you have your own secrets, I won't ask too much." Lilith was very understanding and trusted her teammate completely.

Su Li felt that there was actually nothing to hide, but since Lilith didn't ask, he saved himself the trouble of explaining.

"This mission is quite dangerous. From what I know, several years ago, Roger Sussfu's strength reached the level of a Rank 6 Explosive Expert."

"And our destination this time is the Flame Bar in the Eastern District."

Upon hearing Su Li's words, Lilith waved her hand and said with a smile, "We won't know how difficult it is until we get there. Let's go and scout it out first."

Lilith was easy to talk to, which made Su Li feel even more embarrassed. "The bounty for taking him down is yours."

After leaving the Adria District, the two of them chose not to take a carriage but instead turned and entered the underground railway of Delan Becca.

Su Li was quite surprised to find that even before the era of electricity, the Steam and Machinery Church had already created the existence of a subway.

The underground railway was born more than 170 years ago, initially to connect the seven major districts and mainly used for transporting construction materials for the development of Delan Becca.

Later, this super metropolis entered a stage of development, and the subway became a means of transportation for the public.

Of course, there were not many subway stations, mainly for transferring between different districts.

The subway entrance was not far from the Adria Church. Led by Lilith, the two of them followed the pedestrians and headed towards the underground entrance.

Walking on the red and black underground steps, the light from the gas lamps illuminated the underground area.

There were quite a lot of pedestrians here, coming and going, but the public order was good. After all, each subway entrance was near the major churches, and both the police force and extraordinary powers were not to be underestimated.

Arriving underground, the cool wind with a hint of coal ash made Su Li furrow his brows.

There were no ticket booths in the subway, but it was divided into several major zones.

The station names and seating levels were written in Valerian and Adria languages.

"One Zone: 15 pennies, Two Zone: 8 pennies, Three Zone: 5 pennies, exact change only."

Not far away, the ground staff with red armbands and wielding batons were introducing the subway to the outsiders who came to ride.

Su Li was surprised when he heard the prices.

Indeed, rail transportation was more affordable. If they were to take a carriage, five copper coins would not even get them through a few zones.

Here, there was no distance limit for the subway. They could go wherever they wanted, making it more cost-effective.

Su Li looked at Lilith, who directly chose the cheapest Three Zone.

Su Li couldn't help but think that Lilith was stingy. He wondered why she saved up so much money.

After Lilith paid the copper coins, the two of them squeezed in with a large group of workers, waiting for the subway to arrive.

The underground railway was not slow. After just ten minutes, the dark underground tunnel was filled with the thunderous roar of the approaching subway.

A huge steam train with tremendous impact entered the platform.

Compared to the Grace of God, which had an all-bronze color, this subway train had a relatively smaller size. Its body was winding and black, with luminous gemstone pipes embedded in it to conduct energy. The energy conduits and mechanical pipes intertwined, creating a unique cyberpunk aesthetic.

Delan Becca's underground steam train was the oldest model of steam trains.

The train used a combination of magic crystal energy and steam kinetic energy.

The grating sound of metal friction rang out as the train's entrances and exits simultaneously swallowed the passengers entering and exiting the station.

Unlike the First and Second Class carriages, the Third Class carriage did not have assigned seats, only standing room.

Each carriage was isolated, unlike the Grace of God, which was connected throughout.

Following the crowd, Lilith suddenly grabbed Su Li and they both turned transparent amidst the chaos.

The people behind them buried their heads and squeezed in, completely unaware of Su Li and Lilith's small actions.

Passing through the Third Class carriage, Lilith pulled Su Li into the Second Class carriage, and then walked confidently towards the First Class carriage.

Seeing her familiarity with the process, it was clear that she had done this many times before.

Su Li was speechless and transmitted his voice to Lilith. "Isn't it just a few pennies? Is it necessary to use extraordinary powers and take advantage of the Steam Church?"

Lilith rolled her eyes and said, "If you have money, you pay. I'm just helping out the Steam Church casually. What's wrong with taking advantage of it?""Don't talk later, just sit if there's an empty seat."

Su Li rolled his eyes. So what if he was a Sequence 6, or if his spiritual power was abundant? He was just squandering it.

The two of them had just sneaked into the first-class seats when they suddenly saw a member of the Heart of Machinery team on the platform. He was wearing a pair of mechanical glasses, looking at Su Li and Lilith with a strange gaze, then slowly pulled out the revolver from his waist.

It was a silver revolver, filled with silver, soul-destroying bullets.

...

Lilith pulled Su Li into the duty room, and the latter closed the door.

The member of the Heart of Machinery team kept his gun pointed at them, so Lilith had to deactivate her ghost state.

"Sneaking around, what are you up to?"

Lilith, with a calm face and heart, said lightly:

"Put the gun away. We are the night watchmen of the Black Swordsman team from the Adria Diocese, here to investigate a case."

The member of the Heart of Machinery team remained unmoved, looking at the badge Lilith held up, and said with a doubtful tone:

"I think, you guys are trying to dodge the fare, aren't you?"

Embarrassing, too embarrassing.

Su Li had a thought, he suddenly remembered something, then took it out and waved it in front of the other party, saying:

"How could it be, look what this is?"

It was a VIP card issued by the Church of Steam and Machinery, signed by God's envoy, Ackman Hoynes.

The member of the Heart of Machinery looked at the VIP card, scrutinized it for a long time, then finally relaxed his expression and apologized:

"I'm sorry, I misunderstood you. Do you know what kind of mission could threaten the safety of the train?"

Lilith continued to bluff:

"We suspect there's a heretic from the Church of Fire on the train, we're investigating. You don't need to worry too much, he's our target."

The latter slid his hand from left to right across his chest, then slid it back from right to left.

This was the prayer gesture of the Church of Steam and Machinery.

He solemnly said:

"Excuse me! Please be sure to root out the heretic. If you need any assistance, please contact me at any time."

Su Li awkwardly returned a prayer gesture of the Church of the Black Night, and said sheepishly:

"We will."

After leaving the duty room, Lilith complained:

"Why didn't you take out the VIP card earlier, it cost me an extra 10 pennies."

"I forgot..." Su Li said.
