Vol.2 - Chapter 25 – Please give a warm welcome to Mason, the evil alchemist, and his next victim Zhou Kuo'er!

(Harley Quinzel Doctor finally decided to stay in Mason's shop for a while, not only because the young and overly kind shop owner waived her medical fees.

More importantly, she had a bit too much to drink at a colleague's gathering and walking here was already an extraordinary feat.

As an intern doctor working at Arkham Asylum, work pressure was inevitable and generally much greater than other neurologists in other places.

Drinking alcohol after work was indeed a good choice for relaxation.

But now, Harley felt that she had found a more effective stress relief substitute than alcohol, such as the golden potion that Mason was placing in front of her. It just smelled delightful.

"Come on, give it a try," Mason took the Joyous Agent from the counter, scooped a dose into Harley's water, and made a "please" gesture to her.

Of course, as an excellent psychologist, even in a drunken state, Ms. Quinzel was cautious enough. She sniffed the water and looked suspiciously at Mason, who was full of anticipation.

She said, "There won't be anything illegal in here, right?"

"Good question. A girl should learn to protect herself when she's outside," Mason leaned on his counter, crossed his arms, and said, "But why not use Ms. Harley's wisdom to think about it? Would an upright Gotham City police chief recommend his colleague to a place that harbors dirt and filth?

You know Gordon, right?

Do you know what kind of person he is? The store he recommends should be as strong as his character and morals. Of course, I won't be angry if you don't drink it. This is just a friendly alchemist trying to show his scientific colleagues the magic of mysticism, so that we can smoothly enter the next topic."

"You make sense," Harley shook her head, which was a little dizzy due to drunkenness, picked up the water glass, and raised it to Mason, saying, "So, cheers to alchemy or whatever."

After that, she drank all the water in the glass. This action was somewhat bold and drunk.

Then, the tipsy girl blinked her eyes and felt a surge of excitement that she hadn't felt in a long time rising from the bottom of her heart.

That feeling was like the joy of passing all the levels and entering the national finals when she practiced gymnastics as a child. It was also like the sense of mission and achievement when she graduated from medical school and entered society.

It was as if everything beautiful in her past life was awakened at this moment, punching through the haze in her heart and bringing back the simplest and purest happiness.

"I feel like singing and dancing now..." Dr. Quinzel covered her chest, blushing, and said to Mason."Is this normal or some kind of 'magic side effect'?"

"It's normal."

Mason rubbed his chin and said, "But to reach this level of happiness in such a short time, it seems like you're really suppressing yourself normally. I heard that many doctors at Arkham Asylum couldn't handle the working environment and quit. Is it really that bad?"

"Other than being really bad, it's alright."

Driven by the exhilaration in her heart, she began to complain to Mason, "Do you know that even the mildest patients held at Arkham have the most severe delusions, and schizophrenia and antisocial personality disorder are standard there? And there are many strange and unique specimens."

In the fields of psychology and psychiatry, Arkham Asylum is practically a "holy land" for practitioners. As a doctor working in this holy land, what else can I complain about?"

"It sounds really interesting."

Mason looked at Harley Quinn, who seemed to have suddenly brightened up, and said, "So, based on your professional knowledge, would the drug I just provided you, which can uplift spirits and produce positive happiness, be useful for your patients?"

"Uh..."

The young man's question stumped Doctor Harley.

She stood still, furrowing her brow, carefully feeling her current state.

As a professional psychiatrist, she could easily distinguish between the chaotic happiness brought on by chemical drugs and the uplifting feeling filling her heart at the moment.

But she couldn't easily draw conclusions, so she said, "I need to confirm that this magical potion isn't addictive, and why are you asking this question?"

"Because I'm also conducting my experiments, Doctor Harley."

Mason took out several different-colored and shaped potions from the counter and placed them in front of the doctor. He introduced them from left to right, "Joy Potion, Sedative, Soothing Potion, Stimulant, Confusion Potion, and the most exaggerated Bliss Potion. They are all magical drugs from the same series, and their common feature is that they work on a person's emotional and mental state."

The vitality potion that you and Gordon obeyed before also belongs to this category, but it works instantly, while the magical drugs I brought out have medium to long-term effects."

Take the Joy Potion you just drank as an example. I only gave you a third of the normal dose, but it can still maintain this uplifting feeling and happy mood for four hours."

The young man spoke in a very professional alchemist tone to Doctor Harley, who listened with a blank expression, "I have tested the effects of these magical drugs on ordinary and normal people, but I still lack some strong evidence to prove that my magical drugs can be effective for any individual in any situation. What I mean is those extremely extreme emotional and mental disorders, also known as 'mentally ill patients'.""Where else is more suitable than the regulars of Arkham?"

"Swish."

Harley was completely sober now.

She cautiously stepped back, looking at the young Mason with a villainous gaze, then grabbed something from her handbag and said fiercely:

"You want to use my patients for experiments? Do you think I'll help you? Do you know that this is against the ethics of a doctor?"

"I know, I just don't care."

Mason shrugged on the counter and said:

"Because the whole of Gotham, no, the whole country knows that Arkham Asylum is the new drug testing ground for Wayne Industries' medical department.

When the Daily Planet of Metropolis has no news to report, they will publish several real-time interviews criticizing you.

I also heard Gordon say that you cooperate with some government departments to conduct some 'inhumane' experiments on those hopeless prisoners in the asylum.

If I remember correctly, that project is called the 'Suicide Squad'."

Mason's words made Dr. Harley's face darken. Obviously, she knew some dark secrets about Arkham Asylum.

But she still shook her head and refused to say:

"That's the behavior of superiors, and I can't control it. But I can at least control my own hands. I won't cooperate with you to use these drugs that have no production date, no specific formula, and no precautions on my patients!

Although I admit that it is indeed effective."

"Well, you are a doctor with medical ethics, and I admire that very much."

Mason nodded as if giving up. But in the next instant, he turned his words around, took out his identity card from Dr. Leslie's clinic, and waved it, saying:

"As you can see, I am actually a nursing practitioner. My superiors often tell me in the clinic that a doctor's duty is to save lives and heal the wounded. Being able to cure patients is the most basic professional ethics of a doctor.

If you have problems with even the most basic surgeries, then you are a mediocre doctor no matter how good your medical ethics are.

So, Dr. Harley, I have to ask you a question.

How many patients have you cured during your long time working at Arkham?

Or let's extend it, how many patients have survived and left since the establishment of Arkham Asylum?

Although Arkham Asylum is not the famous St. Elizabeth Psychiatric Hospital in history, I think there is no difference between the two in terms of treatment efficiency.

They are both the devil's offices set up in hell on earth."

Dr. Harley Quinn was stunned by this question.

In general, patients who are sent to Arkham basically do not expect to be discharged. Being sent there means lifelong imprisonment, even she, a doctor, thinks so.

Cure her patients?

What a joke!

On her first day at work, the dean told her that her and all the doctors' job was to ensure that the patients' condition did not deteriorate.

There was no mention of treatment at all."If the patients in Arkham can be easily cured, then that ghost place wouldn't have become a 'holy land' in the fields of criminal psychology and psychiatry.

During her silence, Mason spoke again, 'I know in the field of psychiatry, you 'alchemy scientists' also use chemically synthesized drugs to treat patients' mental disorders. So as far as methods go, there's not much difference between us.

At the very least, I can guarantee that my potions are made from pure natural extracts and contain absolutely no harmful substances. Of course, if you insist on having a formula and an FD license, then I can't get one for you. But Dr. Harley, do you want to be a doctor with medical ethics or fulfill the oath you made to your patients when becoming a doctor?

Modern medicine has already proven that you cannot cure the patients in Arkham, so why not draw some inspiration from ancient wisdom?

Think of it as giving your patients a chance and giving yourself a chance.'

The young man sneered and whispered, 'How much worse can it get? Their situation can't get any worse, you know that. How about this?'

Mason finally opened the bottle cap of the soothing agent he had just prepared with difficulty and dripped a drop into his mouth in front of Dr. Harley.

As the potion flowed into his throat, he quickly felt his thoughts calm down rapidly, and his emotions also quickly eased to the most peaceful state.

He said, 'I drink a little of all the potions before giving them to you to prove that they are harmless. It only requires one try, just like Wayne Industries' medical department testing new drugs.

If it doesn't work, I'll apologize to you.

If it works, I can provide these drugs to help your patients in the long term and complete my experiment.

Other than that, I won't take a single penny.'

'I...'

Harley was persuaded.

She thought of a patient friend of hers. Since joining Arkham Asylum, she has been witnessing that poor girl struggling in uncontrollable destructive desires.

She really wanted to help the girl who was about the same age as herself.

'Okay, I'll try it, but only this once!'

Harley Quinzel gritted her teeth and glared fiercely at Mason, then looked at the various potions in front of her and asked, 'How do I use these?'

'They are easy to mix.'

Mason immediately showed a very friendly and gentle smile, patiently explaining the usage, and then watched the doctor leave with the medicine.

He had confidence in his potions because the wizards in the Hogwarts world had a long history of using these drugs to treat mental illnesses, which were tested by time and ancient wisdom.

'I wonder if Zhou Kuo'er can still go crazy after drinking a bottle of sedative and soothing agent every day?'Mason leaned on the counter with malice in his mind:

"If I could cure that bastard, maybe Batman will give me a pure gold medal that weighs a ton? Of course, even if I can't cure him, there's no harm done, because it's not like anyone else is suffering.

For what that bastard has done, using him as a test subject for medicine is too good for him."

---

Harley quickly returned to Arkham Asylum.

The vitality potion that Mason gave her was very effective, allowing her to work night shifts with energy.

But she was not a naive and easy-to-manipulate person. Before using these potions on patients, she went to visit her "good friend" in Arkham.

"Avi."

Harley walked into a single "V" ward and said to the slender figure sitting facing the green wall with her back to her:

"How was your day today?"

"If you think it's normal for me to want to burn down all the chemical factories and nature-destroying scumbags in Gotham with a flame, then I have to admit that I had a very enjoyable day today."

The hoarse and slightly manic voice answered Harley's question.

Harley sighed and did not approach like other doctors who were afraid. She took out the potion from her arms and placed it next to this patient marked as "extremely dangerous."

She said softly:

"Avi, I need your ability to sense toxins to help me. Please tell me if these drugs are harmful?"

"Is it another pathetic compound?"

The woman with long red hair, strange green skin, and unique scales said in disgust:

"I said, Harley, these pathetic industrial products are useless to everyone in this prison. Everyone here deserves to die!

Including me."

"Just do me a favor, Avi."

Harley, who has always been cold and independent in front of outsiders, begged like a spoiled child in front of her good friend.

The dangerous patient sighed and seemed unable to refuse such a request, so she picked up the bottle of sedative and twisted it open to smell it under her nose.

"Hmm? The fragrance of plants, extracted and boiled in a unique way, and the healing effect of the plant used as a material has been strengthened by some power that I don't understand.

It doesn't contain any nauseating chemical products of modern industry.

It comes from nature.

This is a gift from nature, without a doubt!"

The tone of the green-skinned woman, who was disgusted with everything, became unusually soft at this moment.

She held the potion in her hand and said:

"Harley, it is not only harmless, but also full of wisdom. Just smelling this pure, natural, and harmless fragrance makes me intoxicated. Tell me!

Where did you find such good stuff?

I can feel that it is useful to me.""Yes, the consciousness of the plants remaining in it is telling me that it can soothe my anger and irritability."

In the next instant, before Dr. Harley could even react, she saw her good friend tilt her head back and drink more than half of the bottle of medicine. It was like drinking the finest wine, and she even let out a hoarse and comfortable moan.

Just ten seconds later, the patient with severe mania and a terrifying antisocial personality had calmed down.

She opened her eyes.

Those green, gem-like pupils had never been so peaceful.

She looked at Harley, who was full of surprise, with gratitude and said:

"Thank you, Harley. I haven't felt this calm in a long time. I think I can have a good night's sleep tonight."

A few minutes later, Dr. Harley gently closed the door of the ward and glanced into the room one more time.

Her good friend, the top Gotham villain known as "Poison Ivy," was lying in bed, sleeping as peacefully as a baby. A smile even curved her enchanting lips.

Dr. Harley didn't know what Poison Ivy was dreaming about.

But she was certain that it was definitely not a dream about destroying all the heavy industry in Gotham City and burning those who disrespect nature with heavenly fire.

"Is it really that magical?"

Dr. Harley looked at the bottle of medicine in her hand with amazement. She pursed her lips and decided to try it again. Soon, she arrived at another single-person ward.

Through the iron door, she spoke to the thin figure inside playing poker with his back to her, using a strange and joyful sharp laugh that she herself was unaware of:

"Hi, Mr. J, I've brought you something good for your physical and mental health."

"Ha, my Harley darling, did you bring me Batman?"

The guy inside the iron door made a joke, causing Dr. Harley to burst into laughter.

But then, she shook her head seriously, as if flirting, and said while opening the iron door:

"Of course, it's not the sickening Batman, but it is indeed beneficial to your physical and mental health. Promise me, you'll take your medicine tonight, okay?"
